A new festival in Budleigh is aiming to offer people the very best of local cuisine.
The first Budleigh Salterton Food and Drink Festival will take place at the Public Hall between October 11 and October 13.
The festival, which is a Budleigh in Business initiative, will give both Budleigh residents and visitors the chance to meet, taste and enjoy some of the area’s finest foods. Organiser Simon Blissett said: “It’s a showcase for local food and drink, to show what’s available and bring people into Budleigh.”
The event follows the success of the Active Budleigh festival, organised by Budleigh in Business last year, and the hope is that they will now alternate every year. This year’s festival will include live cooking demonstrations from a Michelin starred chef and Exmouth Mussels, and a beer festival, with 12 beers, four ciders and two wineries.
There will also be a presentation by Pebblebed Wines, food stalls for local producers and retailers to exhibit their products, and a ‘Budleigh Shop’ where retailers who don’t have time to attend a festival can have their products sold. The Budleigh Kitchen will also be taken over by businesses to do food on a rota, which for example may see pasties followed by cream teas followed by fish and chips.
There will also be family entertainment such as face painting and balloon sculpture, and there will be live music in the evenings. The event will also see the launch of a Budleigh ‘Buy Local’ campaign, along with a support package for local retailers, businesses and producers, which is designed to raise awareness of local businesses and encourage the public to use them.
