Baking for the beavers | About this year's book
The idea for this competition comes from Budding Creativity, the annual East Devon young people’s arts project. Their 2017 adventure story from the series ‘Heros of the Jurassic Coast’ features a natural disaster that washes the River Otter beaver trial beavers out to sea. Two local children plan to find and rescue the lost beavers while a third, Eddie, decides instead to raise money to save the trial, which is threatened through budget cuts. Eddie is a foodie fanatic and an amateur chef, and he decides to hold a fundraising cake competition, hence ‘Eddie’s cakes’. The book is called ‘One of Our Beavers is Missing’ and goes on sale in July. In the summer of 2017 a free walk map will be widely available showing where in Budleigh Salterton locals and visitors can buy the book, see ‘One of Our Beavers is Missing’ murals and poems, and it will show where ‘Eddie’s Cakes’ made using the winning recipe will hopefully be on sale!
